Born over five decades ago into the famous Fawole family of Elekuro, Ibadan. Tunde Fawole attended Wesley College practicing school and later proceeded to Lagelu Grammar School, Agugu, Ibadan as well as Government College, Apata, Ibadan. He also had a brief stint at The Polytechnic, Ibadan between October, 1979 and June, 1980.
A distinguished scholar with several academic and professional awards to his kitty, Professor Fawole attended The University of Lagos from 1980 to 1983 where he came out in flying colours (B.sc (Hon) Zoology). Professor Fawole, precisely a year after this achievement proceeded to the Premier University, the University of Ibadan for his M.Sc and left in 1985 with an M.sc degree in Aquatic Biology/Fisheries and bagged his PhD in Zoology (Environmental Biology/Fisheries from the Obafemi Awolowo University, IIe-lfe in 1996.)
In his quest to become a first class administrator apart from being a distinguished Professor, Olatunde Fawole also bagged a Masters degree in Business Administration from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in 1998.
Professor Fawole started his academic career at the then Oyo-State College of Education, now Osun State College of Education, Ilesha as a lecturer in 1986. Before then, he had taught briefly at Aperin High School, Ibadan from November 1985 to November, 1986.
CAREER IN THE UNIVERSITY
Professor Olatunde Fawole had his first stint in the University as a Graduate Assistant during his National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) at the University of Ife. He was a Graduate Assistant from August 1983 to July, 1984.
Professor Fawole took up lecturing job at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho in 1990 and rose from the starting point of Assistant Lecturer to the highest
position – a Professor in the University.
The Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan had served in various capacities at the Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho which ranged from Head of department, Chairman University admissions committee, Director/Chairman, Pre-Degree Science Programme, Chairman, LAUTECH Open and Distance Learning Implementation Committee, Dean Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, Chairman, Committee of Provosts and Deans among other distinguished positions.
Professor Fawole who had attended several conferences and seminars within and outside the country has several research publications and book to his credit. He is a member of many professional bodies such as Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON), Nigeria Association for the Advancement of Science and New York Academy of Sciences.
Professor Fawole whose academic prowess is respected and recognized in several institutions of higher learning, the Rector of The Polytechnic, during his sabbatical leave at The Wesley University of Science and Technology Ondo, was appointed the Deputy Vice Chancellor to enable the University tap to the fullest his wealth of experience. The appointment was from 1st September, 2012 to 30th August, 2013.
A teacher of teachers, professor Fawole over the years has supervised several PhD students who are in turn spreading knowledge in several Institutions in the country. Professor Fawole is happily married and is blessed with children.
Professor Fawole assumed duties as the substantive Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan on Friday 14th 2014 following his appointment by His Excellency, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the Governor of Oyo State on Tuesday, February 18th, 2014.
